While Milla’s friends take big, brave jumps off the jetty, Milla stays on the blistering wood, scared of what lurks below. But when Milla accidentally falls off the edge, she discovers the beauty of the deep, dark sea—and her summer changes forever.
Andrea Rowe and Hannah Sommerville perfectly capture the challenges of childhood—and the joy of letting go—in this homage to summer.

Milla and her friends are playing on the old jetty, which sits high above the deep, blue water.
Milla watches her friends jump from the jetty again and again, but she doesn’t want to jump—it looks scary down in the water, with the mysterious ripples and scary shapes and things moving just below the surface. But when she accidentally drops her shiny bracelet off the jetty, she has no choice but to follow!
Milla dives into the water, reaches for her bracelet, and shoots back to the surface with a splash. She did it! Next time her friends leap from the jetty, Milla joins in and jumps as well.
This is a playful, relatable story about facing fears and having fun. The bright, colourful illustrations and fun textual styling draw the reader into the fun of going jetty jumping, and the variety of words for “jump” adds an educational layer.
