The Goodfellows are the perfect British family—except for Michael. Michael’s older sister Camilla is good at everything; at awards night she wins everything she’s up for. Michael, on the other hand, is more interested in football, TV and computer games. But when the Goodfellows go out for dinner to celebrate Camilla’s awards night success, they unwittingly set off a chain of events that will change their whole lives…

Michael wins an all-expenses-paid gangster-themed New York holiday for the whole family. Unbeknownst to them, a gangster called Big T is planning a diamond heist—and he’s bringing in four goodfellas from Chicago to carry it out. The Goodfellows are picked up at the airport by Knuckles—Big T’s driver—and he takes them to a jewellery store, arms them, and tells them to carry out a robbery.

By this point they know they’re in something deeper than gangster-themed holiday fun, but they aren’t sure what to do: they don’t want to get on the wrong side of either the mafia or the police. When they encourage the store clerk to call the police, he's so he’s so intimidated he just hands the jewels over. Big T invites them back to his home and rewards them richly, and the Goodfellows attempt to play along, using Michael’s extensive knowledge of mafia-themed media as a guide.

The Goodfellows eventually escape Big T with the diamond haul and beat him back to the store in a golf cart, where Michael’s mother makes a complaint about the clerk who handed over the diamonds and testifies about Big T’s plans. The Goodfellows manage to get away scot-free. And across the city, four gangsters come out of a showing of The Lion King with plans to open a tea shop.

Charming and riotously funny, this adventure is full of action and surprising twists and turns. This book is dyslexia-friendly and written for a reading age of 8 years.
