    Review

Cassie lives in an odd rambling house, built by her great-grandfather, high in the Bavarian Alps overlooking her local village.

Though things are far from normal at her home, they are about to get a whole lot weirder. Finding a badly battered cherub in the forest is just the start.

Confiding in her friend Raphael, who has an uncanny knowledge of what’s happening, she first endeavours to save the cherub and then starts working out what’s actually going on.

The mystery deepens in her home library, where clues seem to indicate that something wondrous—but in a way also sad—is about to happen. However, Cassie and Raphael aren’t the only ones aware of the Cherub’s arrival and what it heralds.

Dark forces aim to thwart what is to come. But Cassie’s house has many secrets, and her family’s history is tangled up within. It will take all of her great-grandfather’s ingenuity, and her erratic mother, to save them.

A beautifully-written story which is a little sad but also uplifting, full of sacrifice, honour and the greater good. A powerful tale well-told. Though the subject matter could be construed as religious, the story uses religious imagery in a fable-like manner to discuss broad, thought-provoking themes.

    Themes

    Content Notes

The central premise of this fascinatingly composed tale is that angels born without wings are left on earth to grow up. Once they and their wings grow, they are then summoned back to Heaven with the aid of a cherub to guide and protect them.
